**Course Description: **This class will use a combination of memorization and manipulation to form a strong mathematical foundation for your student to use as they build on their math skills. Since many students freeze up when it comes to “thinking in numbers”, this class will strive to thaw out that attitude with fun and games that encourage learning. Not only will the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division be reviewed, but also fractions, decimals, ratios, and rates. Basic geometry and an introduction to pre-algebra concepts will also be taught to prepare the student for the next levels of math they will encounter. A common-sense approach to everyday math concepts will also be utilized in order to foster a method that the student can use in any aspect of their daily lives (cooking, sewing, science, building, etc.) Problem-solving and proficiency will be our goals. Workbook pages will be accompanied by handouts explaining the process in a step-wise fashion to be used as a reference and for studying. Additionally, the Grade 7 workbook will be supplemented by the instructor with pages from other math sources. Each process will be broken down into steps that are easier to manage, until the student is confident enough to avoid the “I hate math” curse.
