Prerequisite: At least one writing course must have previously been taken under the instructor. *This is an invitation only course. Students will be expected to work independently and to complete all assignments.
Course Description: Recommended for 9th – 12th graders, Creative Writing (CW) will be offered on Tuesdays only. CW will develop writing skills in a variety of genres. Using literature, quotations, art, nature, poetry, improvisation, and acting, students will complete several pieces as well as maintain a CW journal. Every student will be required to write a minimum of 15 minutes per day, at least five days a week, in their CW journal. Students will compile a Writing Portfolio with a minimum of 12 completed pieces. Classes will be designed as a Writers’ Workshop, centering on discussions and critique of their written work. Editing and critiquing skills will be taught. Students will be required to share their writing. Students will enter a minimum of two writing contests (Payment of contest entrance fees will be the responsibility of the students’ parents).
